2025 Tesla Model X: the last car before the final update

The 2025 Model X is the refreshed car with the fewest recalls, but it also has the lowest EPA range of the refreshed years. Here is how it stacks up against the 2026.

The 2025 Tesla Model X is the refreshed Model X just before Tesla's last update. Compared with the 2026, it lacks the front bumper camera, ambient lighting and revised suspension, and its EPA range is about 23 miles lower. When new, the 2026 All-Wheel Drive cost $5,000 more than the 2025.

So the question for most shoppers is simple: is the price gap between a used 2025 and a 2026 bigger than those differences are worth to you?

Buy or skip?Buy a 2025 if the price is clearly below a 2026. It has HW4, the AMD screen computer and only three recalls, two of them air bag fixes. You give up the 2026's front bumper camera, ambient lighting, revised suspension and about 23 miles of EPA range. Charging at home is identical: 48 A on a 60 A circuit.

2025 vs 2026: what the update added

Comparison card of the 2025 Tesla Model X and the updated 2026 Model X: range, camera, lighting, cargo space and price
What the June 2025 update added. Prices are before destination; the 2026 rose again in August 2025 with the Luxe Package.

Tesla revealed the updated Model S and X in June 2025, and the Model X version is sold as the 2026. According to Not a Tesla App's rundown, the changes were:

  • Front bumper camera with its own washer
  • Animated multi-color ambient lighting
  • New bushings and revised suspension, with less wind and road noise
  • Cargo space up from 92 to 94.5 cubic feet
  • New paint colors, and the yoke made an option on the Plaid only
  • EPA range up to 352 miles (All-Wheel Drive) and 335 (Plaid)

What did not change: the HW4 Autopilot computer, the AMD Ryzen infotainment computer, 250 kW Supercharging and 48 A home charging. A 2025 is not a hardware generation behind. Read the full 2026 Tesla Model X page for the final year's pricing and the end of production.

Why the 2025 has the lowest range of any refreshed Model X

EPA range by trim for the 2025 Tesla Model X
EPA-rated range for each 2025 Model X version. Real-world range is lower in cold weather and at highway speed.

The EPA rated the 2025 All-Wheel Drive at 329 miles, against 348 for 2023 and 335 for 2024 (see the 2024 Model X range breakdown). The Plaid fell to 314 on 20-inch wheels and 294 on 22-inch wheels. The sources we checked give no reason for the decline across 2024 and 2025.

Efficiency tells the same story: 98 MPGe, or 34 kWh per 100 miles, for the All-Wheel Drive. The Plaid on 22-inch wheels uses 38 kWh per 100 miles. If you want a Plaid and care about range, the wheel choice matters more than the model year.

Three recalls, two of them air bags

As of October 2026, NHTSA lists three campaigns for the 2025 Model X, the fewest of any Model X year with a recall on file:

  1. 24V967000: the driver air bag cushion could tear during deployment. Service replaces the air bag.
  2. 25V172000: a driver air bag fitted with the wrong horn pad may stop the horn working. Service replaces it.
  3. 25V002000: a short on the computer circuit board can kill the rearview camera. A software update, plus a computer replacement where Tesla finds failure or stress.

Confirm all three are closed with the VIN on NHTSA's recall site.

Home charging: what a 329-mile car needs

Like every refreshed Model X, the 2025 charges at up to 48 A (11.5 kW). Most owners don't drain it daily, so the useful question is how long it takes to put back a normal day's driving. Using Tesla's published miles-per-hour figures for the Model X (our charging times by charger guide covers other models):

Daily miles Wall Connector, 60 A breaker (35 mi/hr) NEMA 14-50 with Mobile Connector (about 23 mi/hr) 120 V outlet (2 to 3 mi/hr)
30 under 1 hour about 1.3 hours 10 to 15 hours
60 under 2 hours about 2.6 hours 20 to 30 hours
100 under 3 hours about 4.3 hours Not practical

Even a NEMA 14-50 outlet copes with typical daily driving overnight. The Wall Connector earns its place on heavy-use days and when you come home from a trip near empty; from empty to full takes roughly 9 to 10 hours. See whether the Mobile Connector is enough for the trade-offs, and how a Wall Connector gets installed for what the electrician does.

How you chargeSpeed
Wall Connector at 48 A (11.5 kW, 60 A breaker)up to 35 mi of range per hour
NEMA 14-50 outlet, Mobile Connector at 32 Aabout 23 mi per hour
Regular 120 V outlet2 to 3 mi per hour
Empty to full, largest pack (about 100 kWh)about 9.5 hours at 11.5 kW

Rates scale Tesla's published Wall Connector table for this model; older cars and cold batteries charge slower. Times are estimates.

Who should pick the 2025 Tesla Model X

  • Pick the 2025 if you find one clearly cheaper than a 2026 and don't need the bumper camera for tight parking.
  • Pick the 2026 if you park in tight garages, want the quieter ride, or plan long winter drives where 23 extra rated miles help.
  • Consider the 2024 if the 2025 isn't much cheaper; it is rated 6 miles further.

On warranty, Tesla's basic cover is 4 years or 50,000 miles and its current Model X battery and drive unit terms are 8 years or 150,000 miles, both from first delivery, so most 2025 cars still have plenty left. Confirm on Tesla's warranty page and with the VIN.

2025 Model X: what people want to know

What is the range of a 2025 Tesla Model X?

The EPA rated the 2025 Model X All-Wheel Drive at 329 miles and the Plaid at 314 miles on 20-inch wheels or 294 on 22-inch wheels. That is the lowest rating of the refreshed Model X years. The 2026 update raised the figures to 352 and 335 miles, and the 2023 car was rated at 348.

What is the difference between the 2025 and 2026 Model X?

The 2026 is the June 2025 update. It added a front bumper camera with a washer, animated multi-color ambient lighting, new bushings and revised suspension for a quieter ride, slightly more cargo space and more range. It also made the yoke a Plaid-only option. The HW4 computer, AMD screen and 48 A charging stayed the same.

How much was the 2025 Model X new?

Tesla raised the All-Wheel Drive to $84,990 and the Plaid to $99,990 in February 2025. Before that the All-Wheel Drive had been $79,990, and we could not confirm which price applied on the day the 2025 model year went on sale. All figures are before destination. The 2026 update launched at $89,990 and $104,990.

Does the 2025 Model X have a front bumper camera?

No. The front bumper camera, which helps with parking now that the Model X has no ultrasonic sensors, arrived with the June 2025 update sold as the 2026 model. A 2025 relies on its other cameras for camera-based park assist. If a listing claims a 2025 has one, check the bumper: it may be a 2026.

How many recalls does the 2025 Model X have?

Three, as of October 2026. Two need a service visit: 24V967000, where the driver air bag cushion could tear during deployment, and 25V172000, a driver air bag with the wrong horn pad. The third, 25V002000, is a software fix for a computer board short that can kill the rearview camera, with the computer replaced where Tesla finds damage.
